Coffee Chat Series: Re-Imagining Detroit
A Conversation with Desiree Bell & Film Screening

Desiree Bell is currently the Director of Communications for the City of Newark New Jersey. In 2009, the city and its new mayor Corey Booker partnered with the Sundance Channel to produce a 5 series documentary on the City of Newark titled "Brick City." The city has been struggling with the loss of major industries, crime and a persistent perception that the city was an undesirable, unsafe place.

Forest Whittaker hosts the documentary series which highlights the the people working to change perceptions of the city, tackle the very real violent crime problem and bring together a community behind a common vision.

The Coffee Chats series will give Desiree an opportunity to talk about changing the perception of a major metro area, and how she is using public relations tools to impact public policy, economic development and quality of life issues in Newark. We'll then expand the discussion to talk about implications for the Detroit Metro area and what we may be able to learn from Newark's efforts.
