Over the next two years, NBPRS-Detroit will host regular member meetings for existing and prospective members. The group also plans to establish a series of PR and media-related events geared towards professional development through rousing PR-related areas of interest and industry related topics such as social media, jobs, and issue advocacy.
“Since the inception of the National Black Public Relations Society-Detroit chapter, its board has done an outstanding job in developing strategic programming to greatly benefit PR Practitioners and students in the market place,” said Tamekia N. Ashford, President, National Black Public Relations Society-Detroit.
Strong and relevant programming is the organization’s stronghold. Some past programs included panel discussions with key communications professionals in politics including Detroit native Jamal Simmons, a political analyst and commentator. NBPRS also hosted an event with the highly acclaimed PR veteran, Ofield Dukes, President of Ofield Dukes & Associates, considered a trailblazer in the field of public relations.
“As the incoming President, I am honored to work with my Board of Directors and colleagues to further engage and enhance the existing platform. I will continue to uphold the programming anchor as we incorporate the dynamics of social media and organizational partnerships,” says Ashford.
Annual membership dues for NBPRS are currently being accepted for practitioners, affiliates and corporate partners. For more information about NBPRS-Detroit, log on to http://www.bprs.org.
